Dubai Appoints Chief AI Officers to Advance Government Innovation

Dubai has taken a major step towards realizing its vision of becoming a global leader in AI-enabled government with the appointment of 22 Chief Artificial Intelligence Officers across various government bodies.

The announcement was made by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. He said the initiative is part of Dubai's forward-looking strategy to leverage artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government services.

The newly appointed Chief AI Officers will play a pivotal role in driving specialized AI plans and programs within their respective entities. Their efforts will serve to boost Dubai's progress and expertise in the AI sector, cementing its position as a pioneer in technology adoption and smart city solutions.

The appointments support Dubai's commitment under the leadership of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish an innovative model for AI-powered government operations. It aligns with the Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence (DUBAI), which aims to facilitate widespread AI integration across strategic industries.

Some of the key government bodies that will have dedicated Chief AI Officer roles include Dubai Customs, Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Digital Authority and Dubai Municipality. The newly appointed leaders will intensify efforts to translate Dubai's ambitious AI vision into concrete actions and real-world solutions shaping the future of smart governance.

Their work reinforces Dubai's status among the top 10 cities in the Global AI Readiness Index. It also supports the UAE's journey to becoming a global leader in emerging technologies like robotics, biotechnology and renewable energy by 2071, as outlined in the UAE Centennial 2071 Plan.

The strategic move signals Dubai's relentless focus on innovation as a catalyst for growth and improved quality of life. Under visionary leadership, AI is empowering Dubai's transition to become the world's most advanced and future-proof city.
