UAE to establish first eye and tissue bank in Abu Dhabi
The Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the emirate, and US-based Eversight, one of the world’s leading not-for-profit eye banks, have partnered to establish the first Eye and Tissue Bank. The agreement provides for the creation, development and operation of a comprehensive and ongoing eye transplant framework in the UAE . The partnership was reflected in a letter of intent signed by Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and Erik Hellier, Director of Global Development at Eversight. Through this strategic collaboration, the Department of Health and Eversight will lay the groundwork in three phases, encompassing program design, implementation and management.
