Geminids Meteor Shower Lights Up UAE Skies in Spectacular Display

Dubai

A celestial display was observed by the United Arab Emirates on Thursday night when the Geminids meteor shower illuminated the night sky with about 120 meteors per hour. About 500 viewers flocked to the Al Qudra desert in anticipation of this spectacular yearly meteor shower.

The Dubai Astronomy Group arranged the viewing event, which offered a perfect environment for stargazers to take in the cosmic spectacle. The sky cleared, defying prior weather forecasts that called for overcast conditions and providing the ideal backdrop for the brilliant meteors traveling through space at an incredible speed of 125,528 kilometers per hour. Anwar Riyaz, a native of Dubai, was one happy participant who told his two young kids about his night out. It's rather pleasant.
