The distinguished economist is president of Queens' College, a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. His diverse background includes work as an executive at Pimco, top economic consultant at Allianz, and practice professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Furthermore, Dr. El-Erian is a senior global fellow at the Lauder Institute.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, announced and congratulated Dr. El-Erian on social media. Sheikh Mohammed described the Great Arab Minds award as an expression of appreciation for all Arabs to celebrate the achievements of Arab brains that have made outstanding contributions to the world. 

Sheikh Mohammed underlined in his statement the importance of Dr. El-Erian's victory in the Economics category. The award is given in honor of Dr. El-Erian's significant services, publications, and books, all of which have played a crucial role in helping people understand the workings, patterns, and prospects for the economy.
