Ukraine Retaliates After Russia's Largest Drone Assault
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly condemned the attack, labeling it as "wilful terror." In a swift response, Ukraine launched a substantial counterattack on Russia overnight, successfully downing at least 24 drones and two missiles across various regions, including the capital, Moscow.
The Russian Defence Ministry reported the interception of two Ukrainian S-200 surface-to-air missiles adapted for land targets over the Sea of Azov. Moscow, too, faced the brunt of the conflict, as multiple drones targeted the city. Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, described the incident as a "massive attack," prompting temporary flight restrictions at three airports in the vicinity.
Beyond the military engagements, the conflict reached civilian areas, with a drone striking an apartment in the Tula region, resulting in one person's injury. As the situation intensifies, the global community anxiously monitors the unfolding events, recognizing the critical need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
