A Decade of UAE Commitment to Yemen
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has always been a steadfast supporter of Yemen and its people, and Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State, recently emphasized this commitment during her speech at the donor conference held in Geneva by Sweden and the Swiss Confederation in collaboration with the UN. Al Kaabi reiterated UAE's objective of 2023 as a year of peace for the troubled country. The conference's goal was to mobilize support for the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen.
Since 2015, the UAE has consistently supported the Yemeni people by giving them urgently required relief and assistance. Yemen has received $6.6 billion in help from the UAE so far, along with a $300 million deposit to support the local currency. Such support has been critical in helping Yemen to cope with the ongoing humanitarian crisis and to rebuild after years of conflict.
However, Al Kaabi's statement that the UAE believes the time has come to end the conflict in Yemen is particularly significant. Yemen remains plagued by violence and instability despite years of conflict and international efforts to resolve the crisis. The UAE's commitment to finding a long-term solution to the conflict is a critical step toward restoring peace and stability to the region.
Yemen's ongoing humanitarian crisis is one of the world's worst, with millions of people suffering from hunger, disease, and displacement. The international community must continue to support Yemen and its people, and the UAE's commitment to the 2023 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan is an important step in that direction.
It is heartening to hear that the UAE has consistently supported Yemen and its people, and Al Kaabi's statement at the donor conference in Geneva reaffirms this commitment. With the UAE's ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, as well as its belief in finding a long-term solution to the conflict, Yemen may finally achieve peace and stability. In this critical time of need, the international community must continue to support Yemen and its people.
