President Sheikh Mohamed's state visits to South Korea and China:


Trade deals, advanced technology and security will be at the top of the agenda as President Sheikh Mohamed visits South Korea and China start from today. The visits aim to strengthen economic cooperation and partnerships with these strategic partners.


Sheikh Mohamed arrived in Seoul on Tuesday for a two-day state visit to South Korea. He tweeted that he will join President Yoon Suk Yeol "to advance the Special Strategic Partnership between the UAE and Republic of Korea." Areas of discussion will include boosting economic partnership and people-to-people ties.

Bilateral ties are extensive, with South Korea being the UAE's second largest Arab trade partner and 14th globally. In 2022, the value of non-oil trade between the two countries will exceed $72 billion. Priority will be given to strengthening supply chain linkages and promoting bilateral foreign investment, which rose to $2.2 billion from the UAE to South Korea.

Key achievements of partnership include South Korean firms building the $20 billion Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, which started operating in 2021. More nuclear deals are anticipated as the UAE explores bids for four new reactors. Cooperation on energy, advanced manufacturing, technology, food security and healthcare will also be discussed.

Sheikh Mohammed will then visit China on Thursday. UAE is China's largest trading partner in the Arab world, with extensive cooperation on crude oil, petrochemicals and AI worth $72 billion annually. Chinese investment in the UAE increased by 16% to $1.3 billion last year while UAE investment in China increased by 120%.

Both visits aim to seize opportunities in priority sectors like energy, manufacturing and technology by strengthening ties with these major economic partners.Deeper cooperation supports the UAE vision of innovation led growth and diversification.
