Advancing Healthcare with Artificial Intelligence | UAE’s AI office, Google host AI Majlis to explore future prospects for healthcare sector

Government leaders and technology experts gathered recently to discuss the promise and potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in transforming healthcare for the benefit of patients in the UAE. The event was part of the ongoing "AI Majlis" dialogue series focused on applying emerging technologies for social good.

Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, opened the session by emphasizing the country's vision of integrating AI into all aspects of life and work. This aims to strengthen the UAE's leadership in driving digital transformation globally in a responsible manner.

Discussion focused on understanding how AI can support healthcare systems and medical practices. Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary of Health Regulations from the Ministry of Health and Prevention, outlined several ways the technology is already improving patient care and public health outcomes. This includes more accurate and timely diagnosis of diseases like tuberculosis and breast cancer. AI is also automating administrative tasks to boost efficiency while protecting sensitive health data.

Google Cloud's Dr. Scott Penberthy shared the company's work to apply AI and cloud technologies for medical research. He sees AI as empowering doctors and researchers with deeper insights that can lead to more personalized, preventative care over time.

All participants agreed on the potential of collaborative partnerships between government, private sector, and academia. By sharing resources and expertise, they aim to unlock AI's full benefits for improving health and quality of life in the UAE. Initiatives like the AI Majlis support constructive dialogue that puts people's well-being and welfare at the center of technological progress. With open cooperation and responsible development, AI shows great promise to revolutionize healthcare delivery and outcomes for the better.
