The Mental Health Team of a UAE Company Wants to Improve Workplace Well-Being

UAE

Historically, industries such as heavy manufacturing and construction, which are generally dominated by men, have shown a reluctance to openly discuss mental health issues. However, EGA is breaking the silence by forming a dedicated mental health team, inspired by the incredible work of the White Helmets, Syrian civil defense volunteers. Their campaign is appropriately dubbed "Aqua Helmets."

This trailblazing mental health team at EGA is dedicated to giving much-needed assistance to employees who are dealing with mental health difficulties or emergencies such as anxiety, despair, and stress. As part of this project, EGA has educated nearly 150 mental health first responders. These individuals perform a critical role in providing counseling and assistance to approximately 300 workers, ensuring that they do not suffer in the workplace.

In real life, Ms. Corbitt initially participated in EGA's "Salama" in-house program to obtain help following the terrible death of her brother, who suffered from severe depression. She spoke about her personal experience with loss, withdrawal, and eventual recovery, emphasizing the necessity of early mental health care.

Emirates Global Aluminium's programs illustrate the critical role that businesses can play in fostering mental well-being in the workplace. Their dedication to removing the stigma associated with mental health and offering concrete support to their employees serves as a model for organizations globally. It demonstrates that a healthy workforce is not only more productive, but also happier and more resilient to life's hardships.
