Elon Musk wants to talk to Tim Cook about adjusting the Apple tax
Tech billionaire and Twitter owner Elon Musk has brought up the topic about Apple tax once more. In a tweet on Wednesday, the tech billionaire said that he would talk to Tim Cook, an American business executive and the chief executive officer of Apple Inc, to see whether the Apple CEO would change the 30 per cent commission on in-app sales.
Apple currently takes a 30 per cent commission on all in-app transactions on iOS, including subscriptions sold by creators through Twitter, now known as X.
Reportedly, Twitter owner wants to modify this so that Apple only receives a 30 per cent commission on the amount of the payout retained by Twitter.
Tech billionaire and the CTO of Twitter also claimed that the micro-blogging site is modifying the way it takes commission from the creator. Instead of taking 10 per cent of subscription revenue after a year, Musk claimed that Twitter will only take 10 per cent once rewards top $100,000. Twitter will not take anything for the first 12 months under this new plan.
In 2022, Musk delayed the rollout of Twitter Blue badge on iOS to avoid paying Apple’s fees. He purchased Twitter in October 2022. Later on, he made various changes to the platform.
Recently, Twitter introduced a new feature to allow users to hide their once-prized blue check marks. An X help page said on Wednesday, "As a subscriber, you can choose to hide your checkmark on your account. The checkmark will be hidden on your profile and posts."
After purchasing the micro-blogging site, Musk made the blue check marks available to anyone who paid for a Blue subscription – a $8 per month package. Later on, he put a temporary hold to the subscription program after people started buying tick marks and impersonating high-profile personalities.
