The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a major step towards promoting sustainability and responsible business practices by joining the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). Emirates and dnata, two of the UAE's leading companies, have voluntarily joined the initiative, which is aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This move is particularly significant as it comes at a time when the world is grappling with climate change and environmental degradation. The UAE, a country that has traditionally been associated with oil and gas, is making a conscious effort to shift towards renewable energy and sustainable practices.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, highlighted the importance of this step forward in the Emirates Group's efforts to embed sustainable and responsible business practices across their operations. He also emphasized the significance of this move in the UAE's Year of Sustainability.

By joining the UNGC, Emirates and dnata have committed themselves to aligning their business strategies with the SDGs, and to report on their progress in implementing these goals. This will undoubtedly help to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and encourage other companies to follow suit.

The UNGC has ten principles covering four key areas: human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. By committing to these principles, Emirates and dnata are taking a proactive stance in promoting ethical and sustainable business practices. They are also demonstrating their commitment to being responsible corporate citizens.

In addition to joining the UNGC, the Emirates Group has taken several other steps towards promoting sustainability. For instance, they have invested in renewable energy, implemented measures to reduce their carbon footprint, and established a Sustainability Department to oversee these efforts.

Overall, Emirates and dnata's decision to join the UNGC is a significant step towards promoting sustainability and responsible business practices in the UAE and beyond. As more companies take similar steps, we can hope to see a brighter, more sustainable future for our planet.
