Partnering for a Greener Future UAE and France's Joint Effort to Decarbonize Hard-to-Abate Industries.

UAE

Glad to hear the UAE and France have recently agreed to form a bilateral partnership to focus on the decarbonization of hard-to-abate (HTA) industries. The two countries have long been leaders in promoting sustainable energy and environmental protection, and this new partnership represents a major step forward in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
The initiative builds on the partnership successes between Emirati and French companies in the clean and renewable energy sector. Industrial leaders from both countries have partnered in the development, investment, and operation of over 6.2 gigawatts (GW) of clean and renewable energy programs across the globe, notably two of the largest single-site solar projects in the world, located in the UAE, and mobilized over US$6 billion in investment, displacing some 10 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The partnership will build on the strengths and expertise of both countries. The UAE has long been a leader in the development of renewable energy, and has invested heavily in the research and development of cutting-edge technologies to support the transition to a low-carbon economy. France, meanwhile, has a strong tradition of innovation in the energy and environmental sectors, and is home to many world-class research institutions and companies.
Additionally UAE and France will endeavor to deliver tangible, positive impacts in the dimensions of climate change mitigation and adaptation and optimize the impact of their climate-oriented projects on biodiversity. The investable opportunities will be developed jointly, with Masdar leading on the UAE side of the partnership, and aim to fully align with the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change, with each opportunity being assessed based on the relevant and internationally accepted methodology.
Together, the UAE and France will work to develop new, low-carbon technologies and solutions to help decarbonize HTA industries. The partnership will also aim to promote international cooperation and sharing of best practices in the fight against climate change.
This new partnership between the UAE and France represents a major step forward in the global effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable energy. By working together to decarbonize HTA industries, the two countries are demonstrating their commitment to finding innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges.
