The UAE and France enjoy a strong, strategic and dynamic relationship, which has been built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared values. The two countries are committed to addressing the regional and global challenges of our time, as well as promoting peace, security, and stability in the region.

Bilateral relations have grown stronger in recent years, and the two nations continue to work together in a wide range of fields, including economic, defence, security, cultural, and environmental cooperation. With its strategic location and significant economic resources, the UAE is poised to play a key role in helping France meet the challenges of the 21st century and will continue to be a vital partner in a more secure, peaceful and tolerant world

The strengthening of French-Emirati relations is a prime example of the trend of bypassing multilateral mechanisms in Europe-Gulf relations. The European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have been engaged at a multilateral level for many years, but Gulf and European countries have chosen to deepen their relationship through bilateral engagement instead. This shift towards bilateralism can be attributed to both structural and contingent factors, as well as the competition between countries on both sides to advance their goals.

The UAE is France's largest trading partner in the Arab world and the two countries have cooperated on various initiatives such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the first international museum in the Arab world, and the UAE-France Cultural Dialogue, which was established in 2018 to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

The French-Emirati relationship is a testament to the trend of bilateral engagement in Europe-Gulf relations.

In conclusion, the deeper French-Emirati engagement is a key trend in Europe-Gulf relations and highlights the importance of bilateral engagement in the region. As the EU and GCC continue to navigate the challenges of the post-Arab Spring era, the strengthening of bilateral relationships will play a critical role in shaping the trajectory of EU-GCC relations moving forward.
